le zebre

From The Motoring Encylopedia, 1937: Le Zčbre: One of the most interesting designs produced on the Continent in recent years is the small Le Zčbre car. This car, whose chassis is of conventional design, has a single-cylinder, double-piston, heavy oil engine of the Peugeot-Junkers type. The cylinder of this engine has a bore of 80mm and each piston has a stroke of 150mm, so that the stroke of the combined pistons, which move outwards in opposite directions on the power and inspiration strokes, is 300mm. One piston has its effect converted to rotary motion in the ordinary manner, but the other has twin connecting rods. The engine works on the diesel principle, and there is a scavenging pump which is operated with the upper working piston.
