1919 Drance Le
Zebre Amilcar Special Roadster
1919 Drance Two Seater SpecialBuilt In France C.1919 & Vscc RegisteredRegistration No:DS 6592
This one-off and therefore truly unique 2-seater sports was
built circa 1919 by one Mr. Drance, who was a French garage
proprietor, hence his creation became known as the Drance
Special. The chassis he employed was a 1914 Le Zebre.. The
750cc 4-cylinder engine, gearbox and rear axle came from Le
Maitre et Gerrard, the wheels and side-mounted spare from an
Amilcar and the radiator from Benjamin.
We are advised that his Drance first crossed the Channel in 1982 when the still original wood and fabric body was recovered in aluminium over the original frame. According to the vendor, the bodywork, today painted blue, are said to be good and the engine, transmission and electrical equipment are all in A1 condition. This righthand drive and very characterful little sportscar is MOTd until next June and, being VSCC registered, can be enjoyed on a full calendar of events in appropriate company. |
