BMW 3.0CSL
Title: SPO 201L
History:
Mr X is the first owner of the car. He is the business partner from Ray Nichol's dad' best friend.
The car is then sold to Eric Stewart, famous singer from the group 10cc. At
that time Pete Symes was working at a BMW dealership called Normand Gatwick Limited
in Hookwood, that had sold the CSL to its first owner, Mr X. Pete was serviving the CSL for Eric.
Unfortunately in 1979, Eric had a serious accident with the CSL, both the
car and the pilot got severely affected. Eric had to slow down with singing,
while the CSL was retired at Cronks Garage in Redhill. Pete located another red Verona CSL for Eric and stored the dameged CSL.
In 1980, the CSL was in a garage in Balcombe, West Sussex; Pete had become a
BMW, Lotus and Alfa Romeo specialist and was using the CSL as shelf to stock old
mufflers. There was little left from the car, brakes, windows, dashboard and
interior trim had gone, only the shell and powertrain was still there.
In 1988, Ray bought the CSL along with a CSI for 1000 BPD. The initial idea was
to convert the CSL into a track car. The CSI was very roten, so Ray kept
most of the parts and sold the shell and powertrain for 200 bpd. At the same
time, Pete had move to a garage in Crawley Down.
Ray changed his plans and decided to do a ground up restoration of the car.
Fortunately the car had stayed in dry storage all the time and was frquently
moved around, keeping the mechanical parts lubricated.
A study of the car revealed no chassis damage despite the accident and no rust damage in the main parts of the shell.
