Pristine 1973 BMW 3.0CSL Lightweight Coupe…

This CSL is in beautiful restored condition and looks great in the factory blue/black scheme with CSL side stripes. It is available from The Stable, Ltd. in Gladstone, New Jersey for $55k.

The factory lightweight modifications also happen to look great on these coupes. The fiberglass front spoiler replaces for heavy chrome bumper and includes brake cooling ducts. The hood, trunk, and doors are all aluminum instead of steel, and the rear gets a plastic rear bumper instead of metal. The CSL’s are anywhere from 250-400 lbs lighter than the factory CS coupes depending on options. We are not huge fans of the chrome fender trim, but it is correct for CSL’s.

We would swap the proper 16″ Alpina wheels onto this car and otherwise leave it as-is. Below is the perfect Nardi wheel for the early BMW’s. The CSL’s came factory with a more German-looking 3-spoke wheel with circles drilled in the spokes. The Scheel bucket seats are much lighter weight than the bulky stock seats and were included on all CSL’s.

The engines were unchanged from the standard coupes. This one has the CSi engine which included Bosch fuel injection. The front frame members are very straight on this car and look to be free of rust.

$55k is high for this car, but with good CSi coupes getting $30k it seems logical to spend a the $20k extra for the greater appreciation potential and rarity.

Check out this very similar but modified CSL we found for inspiration.
