Considered the definitive sports sedan, the BMW 2002 transformed the company into what it is today. With roots branching into the ‘New Class’ of family sedans first offered in the early 1960s, with four-cylinder, single-overhead camshaft engines, these vehicles defined BMW for years to come. The success of these cars cannot be understated. During the 12-year model run, a total of 398,434 were built, including 196,845 2002s between January 1968 and June 1975.

The A4S could be had for roughly twice the price of a standard 2002. However, many would argue that the premium was well worth it for the added performance, as power was increased to 195 horsepower. Originally finished in Garnet Red metallic with a fabric interior, chassis number 02735630 was born as a 2002 Tii and immediately built to Alpina A4S specifications.

Even in standard form, the 2002 has always been considered as one of BMWs most enjoyable cars to drive. The Alpina A4s ratchets up the excitement even more, as one of the rarest and most desirable variants of the 2002.
