Thornley Kelham are currently responsible for the
restoration of two fabulous C6 Amilcars. Chassis number 11052 has
quite a palmarès placing second on successive occasions in 1935 and
1936 in the Bol d'Or endurance event.
The Chief Mechanic at TK - Paul Woodward has quite an experience on C6's having worked on several of the machines remaining in existence today. With this and another C6 loaded up into the TK racing truck we travelled out to the Vintage Revival Montlhéry - one of the largest international meetings of pre-war vehicles. I was able to get the shot you see above through kind support of Jean Frederic-Frot from the Vintage Revival. The initial plan was for an hour on circuit. Things have a way of unraveling sometimes however, and on the day we were given 15 minutes. Not much time to pull off a unique shot in almost the worst lighting available. Sometimes you just have to make the best of the situation as it presents itself, and I'm pleased with the result. Only an hour or so before I was lucky to be a passenger in the C6 for three laps. Looking down from the steeply banked curve at the Montlhéry in-field in the sunshine; roaring along in a supercharged straight-six, is something I will never forget. Here's a montage covering some of the history of 11052, up to its restoration to a glorious Montlhéry 2013. Quite a sound from an engine which was still being run in!

camshafts and a supercharger, these engines were not only
works of art but seriously competitive.
Chassis No. 11052
must probably be the most important C6 on the market as it
boasts a period competition history second to none. In the
hand of its first owner, Monsieur Louis Devaud, it competed
in a number of French Grand Prix in the late 1920s and
1930s, among them the 1929 Grand prix de Bourgogne, the 1931
Grand Prix de Picardie, the 1931 Grand Prix de France as
well as the 1932 Grand Prix de Baule and the 1935 Bol d'Or,
finishing an impressive 2nd in the latter and numerous
finishes among the first ten. The second owner, Monsieur
Georges Grignard, who purchased the car in 1936, continued
the car's racing career with again very impressive results,
among them a second place in the 1936 Bol d'Or as well as in
the Grand Prix de France of the same year. It should not be
forgotten what an achievement these results were, bearing in
mind that the car was already nine years old in 1936! Its
fourth owner, Monsieur Rene Ducreux once again campaigned
the car after the 2nd world war atrocities in the 1949
edition of the Bol d'Or. In the hands of Mr Howald the car
received a comprehensive restoration from 1999 to 2005, and
only recently all the electrics and wiring have been
refurbished, so that the cuurent owner describes this
fantastic piece of French motoring history as being
excellent in every respect. It is being offered with French
registration documents, Fiva Class A3 papers as well as
various other documents and pictures relating to the car's
impressive history.
